The Jeep Renegade Impressed Us Then and Still Does Now

The Jeep Renegade is one of the smallest models in the Jeep lineup, but don’t let the size fool you. The 2019 Jeep Renegade is built to take on rough and rugged back roads and built to turn heads. This Jeep stands in its class not only because of its boxy shape, but also because of its new optional powertrain, style updates, off-road capabilities, and technology. Say you don’t plan on taking the new Jeep Renegade off-roading, it’s still a car that will move mountains for you.

We first were introduced to the Jeep Renegade in 2015. Although it was designed in the U.S. the Renegade’s home is a Fiat plant in Italy where it shares a similar platform and purpose as the Fiat 500X. The Jeep Renegade after its release date found a home in over 100 countries worldwide. Since 2015, the Renegade has had some major updates and has welcomed new features and technology.

2019 Jeep Renegade Upgrades

For 2019, The Renegade has received a handful of upgrades and updates. Some of these upgrades include a new hood and grille with active shutters. These shutters close at high speeds to decrease aerodynamic drag. New LED headlights and taillights are an optional upgrade if you choose so. You’ll also come across new wheel designs. On the inside, you’ll see updates to the center instrument panel and a sleeker-looking infotainment system. A cool little feature that you didn’t know you needed until now is the cellphone holder.

A 180 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard in the new Renegade. It produces 175 lb-ft of torque and includes a 9-speed automatic transmission. This drivetrain replaces the original 165 horsepower 1.4-liter four-cylinder base engine. Another optional engine is a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder that produces 177 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel economy is dependent on the trim. When equipped with the 1.3-liter engine and 4x2, Renegade’s EPA estimated fuel economy rating is: 24MPG city/ 32MPG highway/ 27MPG combined. With the same engine and 4x4, the Renegade’s EPA estimated fuel economy ratings are: 23MPG city/ 29MPG highway/ 26MPG combined.
