Jeep Wrangler: Checking Out Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year
The Jeep Wrangler was recently named Motor Trend’s 2019 SUV of the Year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This is big news for the automaker because no Jeep has won this award in the past 20 years. Although this SUV received some major upgrades that ultimately helped it win, this vehicle still has the overall feel and look of what makes a Jeep a Jeep.
“The Wrangler is a thoughtful, thorough rework of an American original,” Motor Trend’s international bureau chief Angus MacKenzie said. “It’s laser-focused on improving the performance of its intended function, right down to the last nut and bolt.” For example, the Wrangler is available with a brand new 2.0L four-cylinder hybrid option that produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Not only does this engine increase city and highway fuel efficiency by 33 percent, but it also allows its four door model to tow up to 3,500 lbs.Other upgraded elements include lighter doors and a one-touch option for retracting the roof.
Although the Wrangler received necessary improvements and upgrades, this vehicle still encompasses everything Jeep aficionados look for in a Jeep. This means that the Wrangler still has all of the classic Jeep elements that make it look and perform like Jeeps are expected to.
This SUV also includes a plethora of useful safety features. These include but are not limited to blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, parkview rear back up camera, parksense rear park assist system, SOS call and assist buttons, passive entry, tire pressure monitoring system as well as full-sixe spare tire, and trailer sway control.
The most notable design changes to the Jeep Wrangler include a more streamlined grille, front LED turn lights and square rear taillights.
