The 2018 Dodge Durango

The 2018 Dodge Durango, with it features taken from the Dodge Charger and FCA’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division, tends to put the “sport” in sport-utility while challenging its competitors to create something less inferior. The Durango is created with parts generally belonging to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, yet the Durango SRT is significantly larger and contains a third row, something the Grand Cherokee lacks. Under the hood lurks Dodge’s prolific 392 cu in V8 that produces 475 horsepower and 470 pound-foot of torque.


The 6.4-liter HEMI aggressively starts and moves quickly – a quarter mile time of 12.9 seconds. The Durango, when hauling, can tow up to 9,700 pounds, easily surpassing the best-in-class requirement. The engine, however, does its best to conserve on fuel, a very important feature to fuel efficient minded consumers. When cruising in light load conditions, the V8 uses its FuelSaver Technology and deactivates its cylinders in an attempt to conserve fuel. The Durango uses a new T-shaped shifter, looking like a vintage muscle car, that controls a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission that guides V8 power to the all-wheel drive system. A new driving mode system allows drivers to choose from various selections, including, auto, snow, tow, valet, eco, sport, and track settings. The track settings include variations in shift timing, suspension setting and front/rear torque split ratios, which shift more power towards the rear wheels when engaged in performance settings.


The list of features and potential add-ons seems almost endless. The SRT, the top-of-the-line trim level, feels like luxury, yet drives like a machine. It employs double stitched leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim touches and ventilated and heated seats. The cars modern display features a 8.4 inch Uconnect media center that contains SRT Performance links, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and much more.
